Job Description

  • Develops and maintains partnerships with local employers in order to develop potential worksites and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Negotiates work site training agreements or special accommodations. Monitors and tracks success following placement. Serves as primary contact person and maintains database of current and potential business partners.
  • Coordinates employment and training services with Area Directors and staff to assure efficient and effective service delivery and to meet program goals for individual referral, placement, participation, and transition.
  • Coordinates with the CWIC to assure that the individuals’ medical benefits will not in any way be adversely impacted.
  • Provides employment support to individual members to ensure the success of persons supported for gaining and maintaining a job, including their dress, grooming, timeliness, etc. The Supported Employment Specialist works with a team of members and staff to provide this support.
  • Fosters an environment that encourages members’ self-advocacy and the development of natural and community supports.
  • Assesses experience, skills, aptitude and interests of individuals through interviews, observations, situational assessments and vocational explorations. Identifies suitable job opportunities; assists in completing employment applications, sets up interviews with potential employers, accompanies individuals to interviews or arranges transportation. Works with employers to develop natural supports on the job site. Follows up with employers regarding job placement status.
  • Develops and implements strategies for worksite development, skills training, recruitment, referral and coordination of employment and training components for individuals. Works with other agency staff to develop marketing materials for presentations concerning these strategies.
  • Fosters strong working relationships with businesses, community based organizations, and partner agencies (e.g., public schools). Establishes contractual relationships with other employment-related organizations (e.g., Vocational Rehabilitation). Provides consistent communication with partner agencies to ensure coordination of services and development of job placement opportunities.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the DIDD/TennCare/Vocational Rehabilitation employment process, including related forms and paperwork by completing ongoing training for supported employment practices and approaches, including Job Coach Training, employment meetings, DIDD, TennCare, and VR endorsed training sessions, workshops, and conferences.
  • Transports persons or arranges transportation to appointments and/or trainings or readiness programs as needed.
  • Manages data by recording support hours; completing forms and reports; tracking pay and benefits, and maintaining other written and electronic information as per MCO and agency requirements. Prepares reports to keep all parties informed of progress and accomplishments.
  • Provide follow along services by conducting periodic on-site visits; collecting employer evaluations; completing progress reports; communicating with family and other support staff; retraining job skills.
  • Assure communication with all team members and other relevant agency staff, representatives of people supported (including families, conservators, advocates, service coordinators, etc.) and regulatory officials by establishing and maintaining open relationships, attending periodic employment meetings and attending other meetings related to persons supported.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and presentation at all times effectively representing the agency within the business community. When working on the employment site, dress appropriately for the environment and tasks assigned.
  • Assure the rights of the people supported by actively recognizing and promoting the protection of those rights at all times; ensuring that people are supported in a manner which enhances their dignity and respect; ensuring all employment-related activities are conducted in a positive environment that is conductive to the growth and development of the people supported.
  • Assure confidentiality of all privileged information and records concerning persons supported.
  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned by supervisor. 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Represent the Company in a professional manner in dealing with consumers, family members, guardians, and other outside professionals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit.
  • The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and talk; and hear.
  • The employee must occasionally walk and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.     

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Masters or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of successful experience in working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in  employment, counseling, job placement, job coaching or public vocational rehabilitation program or an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university and four years of successful experience and employment in working with individuals with disabilities in job placement, job coaching, counseling or public vocational rehabilitation program.
  • Must be able to think logically and act rationally in the midst of crisis or emergencies.
  • Strong staff management skills are essential.
  • Must have valid Tennessee Driver’s License with clean driving record.
